Detailed Description of Sponsorship Opportunities

IMPLEMENTING THE PRINCIPLES

1. Progress and Value Workshop Series
These two-day training workshops bring together approximately 35 representatives from companies, Global Compact Local Network focal points and other stakeholders to discuss practical and tested methods for implementing the 10 principles within business – and related benefits. In 2008, workshops will take place in China, India, South Korea, Africa and the United States.
2. Annual Senior Manager Training
This week-long training event will bring together approximately 30 senior managers from business, civil society and other stakeholder groups to explore implementation of each Global Compact principle. During the event, participants will examine related challenges, opportunities and emerging best practices. It is the most comprehensive training offered by the Global Compact Office – in coordination with UN partners – on the 10 principles.
3. Corporate Responsibility Tools and Reporting Platform
This new web platform for Global Compact stakeholders will be a comprehensive resource containing information, tools and sustainability reports related to the implementation of the 10 principles. External organizations will be encouraged to submit useful information and tools that assist companies in their work to align practices with the 10 principles and communicate on progress.

GLOBAL COMPACT ISSUE AREAS

4. Human Rights Reporting Tool
The Global Compact Office, the Global Reporting Initiative and Realizing Rights: The Ethical Globalization Initiative have joined together to improve understanding of reporting on human rights performance and, subsequently, embed this understanding in global reporting standards. The project will produce user-friendly publications focusing on challenges, recommendations and innovative practices related to human rights reporting.

5. Caring for Climate: The Business Leadership Platform
Caring for Climate is a voluntary platform for Global Compact participants seeking to demonstrate leadership on the climate issue. Companies that join are prepared to set goals, change strategies and practices, and publicly disclose emissions. Sponsors of this project should also be official endorsers of the Caring for Climate platform. Contributions will support:

Progress Report
The Global Compact Office will work with partners to examine the actions taken by Caring for Climate signatories to address climate issues in accordance with their commitments under the initiative.

International Meeting of Signatories
An international meeting will be convened in September 2008 in New York to take stock of progress by Caring for Climate signatories. The meeting will provide a forum to discuss and learn about strategies implemented by companies, showcase innovative and emerging good practices, and analyze actions undertaken by various sectors.
6. The CEO Water Mandate
The CEO Water Mandate assists companies in developing a comprehensive approach to water management, covering six key areas: direct operations, supply chain and watershed management, collective action, public policy, community engagement, and transparency. In 2008, the initiative's inaugural conference will be held. Sponsors of this project should also be official endorsers of The CEO Water Mandate. Contributions will support the convening of workshops, the initiative’s annual conference in March 2009, and related reports.
7. Transparency & Anti-Corruption Good Practices Publication
A survey of Global Compact participants will be carried out to uncover good practices in their efforts to combat corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery. Survey results will form the basis of a new publication on the 10th principle.
8. Transparency and Anti-Corruption Workshop
The Global Compact Office, in collaboration with the International Business Leaders Forum and Transparency International, will organize a workshop to build the capacity of companies to implement the 10th principle. A key focus of the meeting will be supporting participants to overcome obstacles. Companies will be encouraged to share their experiences and provide practical guidance on actions taken.
9. Partnership Assessment Tool
The Global Compact encourages participants to take part in cross-sector partnerships that advance broad UN goals, particularly the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The Partnership Assessment Tool (PAT) helps business and UN managers to assess the sustainability and impact of partnership projects. In 2008, the Global Compact will embark on a process of testing and revision to improve the usefulness and effectiveness of the tool. The outcome of the process will be an interactive web-based version made available free of charge to Global Compact participants.
10. Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME)
PRME provides a framework for academic institutions to advance corporate responsibility through curricula and research. All business schools and management-related academic institutions are invited to endorse PRME and participate in adapting education, research and thought leadership to the new business environment. In 2008, two global surveys will be undertaken to help prioritize demands from the corporate sector with respect to new, more responsible approaches to management education. The December 2008 Global Forum on Responsible Management Education will enhance the visibility of PRME and outline a roadmap for the initiative's future development.

Sponsorship of this project will help support:
  • PRME operational budget
  • Global survey on corporate perceptions of management education
  • PRME Faculty Report
  • Global survey of business school students
  • 2008 Global Forum on Responsible Management Education

The 2008 Annual Local Network Forum will take place in October in Germany.
12. Regional Local Network Support
